We have fun with our scouts while helping them grow and learn!
A typical year finds us doing the following:
- Pack and Den meetings –Pack 6 meets monthly with most Dens meeting twice monthly.
- Den meetings are spent developing skills and completing activities that lead to awards and/or advancement to the next rank.
- Pack meetings are spent recognizing the scouts’ achievements and enjoying special programs. Recent special programs have included: Native American culture and dancing, birds of prey (with live birds!) and reptiles (with live snakes!).
- Community service –We enjoy giving back to our community! Recent service activities have included:
- Regency House Holiday Program -providing a potluck dinner and caroling at this retirement community
- Scouting for Food -collecting canned goods for distribution to local shelters and food banks
- Snack in a Backpack -packing backpacks with a weekend’s worth of food for 150 children who receive free meals at school but need supplemental food on the weekends
- VA Eagles Nest visitation and craft adventure
- Branan Towers Holiday Program –providing a potluck dinner and caroling at this retirement community
- Fernbank Museum Spring Dinosaur Egg Hunt –assisting the staff with egg hiding, crowd control and information dispersal
- Family Camping and Big Trips –We enjoy helping our ‘city kids’ experience the great outdoors! Recent weekend trips have included visits to:
- Unicoi State Park's Squirrel's Nest near Helen, GA
- Historic Banning Mills
- Callaway Gardens
- N. Georgia Trout Farm in Dillard, GA
- Battleship Memorial Park and the USS Alabama in Mobile, AL
- The Nat'l Naval Aviation Museum and Big Lagoon State Park in Pensacola, FL
- Scoutland on Lake Lanier in Georgia
- Camp Rainey Mountain in the Smoky Mountain foothills of northeast Georgia
- St Simons and Jekyll Islands on the Georgia coast
- Lawhorne Scouting Base on the Flint River in middle Georgia
- Bert Adams Scout Reservation on the Appalachian Piedmont in middle Georgia
- Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL
- Cloudland Canyon State Park near Lookout Mountain in northwest Georgia
- The USS Yorktown aircraft carrier at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston, SC
- The Lost Sea, Rock City and Raccoon Mountain Caverns near Chattanooga, TN
- Other Fun Activities –including:
- Pinewood Derby –the boys cut, carve, sand, paint, assemble, tune and race their own gravity-powered model cars!
- Bicycle Rodeo –the boys learn bike safety while pedaling through a variety of challenging courses!
- Family Picnic Field Day and Epic Water Battle –the name says it all: food, fun and squirt guns!
